Public Works Department Office and Appointment Hours
The City of Auburn Public Works Department has implemented COVID-19 prevention protocols, including modifications to our submittal processes to reduce the need to visit our office.
Public Works, Building Permits, and Planning Inspection Services
The following describes the services that remain available along with a description of how to contact The City of Auburn for such services. We encourage the public to contact City staff by email for the quickest response.
Public Inquiries
For general questions regarding public works permits, building permits, or planning permits please email Amy Franklin or call 530-823-4211 x136.
Public Works Department, Building, and Planning Office Hours
Public Works Manager office hours- No appointment necessary. Monday through Friday 8am-9am and 4pm-5pm. Applicants are strongly encouraged to email Mengil or call 530-823-4211 x145. The Public Works Manager is also available by appointment only Wednesdays 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
Building Permit issuance – Monday through Friday 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
Building Official Office Hours- No appointment necessary. Monday through Friday 8am-9am and 4pm-5pm. Applicants are strongly encouraged to email Jon or call 530-823-4211 x123. The Building Official is also available by appointment only Wednesdays 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
General Planning Inquiries: Planning staff is available every Wednesday (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) and (1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) No appointment necessary. Applicants are strongly encouraged to email Tonya or call 530-823-4211 x140. Planning Application Submittals: by appointment only Tuesday (8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) and Friday (8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.).
Submittal of Building Permit Applications
Residential and Commercial basic permits (water heaters, reroofs, electrical, etc.) without (not requiring) plan review – applicants are strongly encouraged to apply online. Permits will be processed and issued in an expedited time frame if all paperwork has been provided.
Building Permit applications for other projects (SFD, New Structures, Additions, Remodels, Change in Use, etc.) requiring plan review, applicants are encouraged to apply online or in person.

Building Inspections
Building Inspections are conducted on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with no inspections being conducted on Wednesdays. To schedule an inspection please call 530-823-4211 x 389.
