AB-481 requires that all state and local police agencies adopt a military equipment use policy that is first presented to their respective governing body (in this case, to the Auburn City Council). AB-481 (available to review below) specifically defines what is “military equipment” as well as the process by which a governing body must review, hear public comment, and adopt a proposed policy. The City Council and the pubic have opportunity to make comment on the draft policy.
On April 11, 2022, the Auburn Police Department presented the proposed policy to the Auburn City Council. Staff will provide City Council the proposed policy with modifications during the May 9, 2022 regular session of the City Council for the first reading. The proposed policy will remain on the City's website for no less than 30 days.
